**Poland Files Formal Complaint Against TikTok Over Alleged Russian AI Disinformation Campaign**
Warsaw has escalated its concerns regarding the social media giant TikTok, lodging an official complaint with the European Commission. The grievance centers on the platform’s alleged failure to curb the widespread dissemination of deepfake, AI-generated content specifically designed to promote Poland’s withdrawal from the European Union—a narrative often dubbed 'Polexit.'
Deputy Digitalization Minister Dariusz Standerski articulated the seriousness of the situation in a formal communication addressed to the Commission earlier this week. Standerski asserted that the proliferation of this material "constitutes a significant danger to public order, national information security, and the fundamental integrity of democratic procedures within both Poland and the wider European bloc."
Polish authorities are highly confident that the malicious content originates from foreign interference, stating the campaign is "almost certainly" the work of the Russian disinformation apparatus. Government spokespersons pointed to specific linguistic evidence, noting that the audio recordings prominently display unmistakable Russian syntax, which they view as conclusive proof of the content's origin and intent.
Officials further contend that, by allowing this campaign to flourish, TikTok is neglecting its mandatory duties as a designated Very Large Online Platform (VLOP) under strict EU digital regulation. This failure, they argue, stems from the unchecked distribution, the manipulative nature of the narratives being spread, and the sophisticated utilization of synthetic audiovisual media deployed on the service.
This new filing lands while the platform, owned by the Beijing-based company ByteDance, is already under intensive scrutiny. Last year, the European Commission initiated formal proceedings against TikTok regarding suspected deficiencies in controlling electoral interference, notably concerning the 2024 presidential election held in Romania.
